The Rapture is starting to sound more and more like a good idea

Politiks, Rants and Raves

First there was the War on Christmas, and now, just when you thought we all were safe, The War on Christians rears its ugly head. Fear not, however, for Vision America, those brave martyrs and heroes, have vowed to fight until every last drop of atheist, Muslim and Pagan blood has seeped into our God-given American soil. Ok, maybe I exaggerate a bit.

These good people are committed to “Restoring the Original American Vision,” and have gathered together such intellectual luminaries as Gary Bauer, Phyllis Schlafly and Alan Keyes, as well as that bastion of Christian Ethics, Tom Delay to save us from the heretical scourge composed of the ACLU, Gays, and of course, Hollywood. Well, Hollywood with the exception of Mel Gibson and Kirk Cameron, of course.

Vision America was founded by Dr. Rick Scarborough, who Tom Delay claims as “one of [his] closest friends.” Well, gosh-darn and call the deacon Mildred, if that ain’t just a peachy recommendation, then I don’t know what is. Dr. Scarborough has a new book out, Liberalism Kills Kids which purports to expose a “cultural coup d’etat that has left our families gasping for air.

My favorite quote so far about this whole fiasco comes from Jeff Teidrich at The Smirking Chimp:

Frankly, the Rapture can’t come soon enough for me. What a quieter place this world will be after The Big Jesus Hoover Vacuum sucks these people up into the sky.”

A dubious honor, maybe….

Rants and Raves

Last Thursday I stood in line for 3 hours just to see Ron Jeremy. Aside from my fascination with all things low, and a never-ending willingness to do things because I can. . . . I recommend it, if only for the amusement you’re sure to receive.
It’s interesting that in a culture allegedly focused on values as much as America, a porn star would be so famous….

Geneva What?

Rants and Raves

It just keeps getting better. This story from the Independent adds some more to the latest debacle from Iraq. I understand that just because one or two soldiers break the law it doesn’t follow that the entire army is at fault. But come on, isn’t it at the very least a disturbing sign? Dismissing events like this and Abu Ghraib as isolated incidents that have no wider implications is like a diabetic who can’t feel his feet blaming it on the weather.

Fuzzy Math?

Rants and Raves

The following paragraph comes from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities webpage:

The President has blamed the war and the recession for the turnaround in the nation’s fiscal fortunes, ignoring the role of tax cuts. Yesterday, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer again suggested the war is the culprit. Congressional Budget Office data show, however, that the tax cuts enacted since 2001 will cost nearly three times as much over 2003 and 2004 as the combined costs of the fighting and occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq, the costs of reconstruction and relief after the September 11 terrorist attacks, increased expenditures for homeland security, and the cost of dealing with terrorism on a worldwide basis.
